Pak Ou Caves is a well known Buddhist site and a place of pilgrimage, famous for their miniature Buddha sculptures. Hundreds of very small and mostly damaged wooden Buddhist figures are laid out over the wall shelves, in many different positions, including meditation, teaching, peace, rain and reclining (nirvana).

Pak Ou Caves are a system of limestone caves located on a rock cliff, rising vertically from above the confluence of the Mekong River and Nam Ou River. Locals call them the Tam Ting Caves, meaning "Caves of a thousand Buddhas.” Inside the caves are 4000 Buddha figurines, most carved of wood or made from tree resin and lacquer and covered with gold leaf.
