Mogao Grottoes are widely praised as the first light of civilization

Located on the side of Mingsha Mountain, the Mogao Grottoes are widely praised as the first light of civilization and a treasure trove of Buddhist art, including Buddhist architecture, sculptures and paintings. Caves of different sizes were dug in five tiers in the Mountain. Various grand and exquisite Buddha figures serve to demonstrate the sophisticated skills of the craftsmen. Colorful murals covering 45,000 square meters depict Buddhist stories, natural sceneries, flying apsaras, folk customs such as farming, weaving and hunting, as well as wedding and funerals, and different festivals. Based on the artistic traditions of the Han people and people of the Western Regions, ancient artists absorbed art forms from Iran, India and Greece to develop special art items with local characteristics. As a valuable resource for studying the politics, economy, culture, religion, national relations and foreign exchanges of ancient China, the Mogao Grottoes are a treasury for understanding the development of human civilization and culture. In the early 1900s, a Chinese Taoist named Wang Yuanlu appointed himself guardian of some of these temples. Wang discovered a walled up area behind one side of a corridor leading to a main cave. Behind the wall was a small cave stuffed with an enormous hoard of manuscripts dating from 406 to 1002 AD. These included old hemp paper scrolls in Chinese and many other languages, paintings on hemp, silk or paper, numerous damaged figurines of Buddhas, and other Buddhist paraphernalia. The subject matter in the scrolls covers diverse material. Along with the expected Buddhist canonical works are original commentaries, apocryphal works, workbooks, books of prayers, Confucian works, Taoist works, Nestorian Christian works, works from the Chinese government, administrative documents, anthologies, glossaries, dictionaries, and calligraphic exercises. Wang sold the majority of them to Aurel Stein in 1907 for the paltry sum of 220 pounds.

Over the next 1,000 years, 10 dynasties rose and fell, and artists of each dynasty contributed grottoes. Work on the grottoes ceased during the Yuan dynasty (1368–1644), and ever since the grottos have remained through for hundreds of years, protected from natural erosion by their cave location. Today, 492 caves are still standing. Altogether there are 2,000 statues and over 45,000 separate murals.

Dianchi Lake is one of the Chinese government's key lake restoration priorities

Dianchi Lake is located in the Yunnan Province of Southwest China, and is one of the Chinese government's key lake restoration priorities. Dianchi is the largest lake in Yunnan Province and one of the ten largest lakes in China.

The Dianchi Lake, Because of its exceptional charms the lake is nicknamed "Sparkling Pearl Imbedded in a Highland ". Its shores are dotted with scenes of rich scenic beauty and areas of historical significance. Around the lake are a fair number of interesting tourist attractions, such as several smaller parks, resorts and the Yunnan Nationalities Village. There are many leisure boats available for touring the lake. Sailing on the lake proves a most enchanting experience with the boat swaying gently on a vast surface of liquid silver. At night, the moon casts a hazy glow over the lake, and the silence of the scene is broken only by the gentle sigh of a refreshing breeze. At the same time, the lake is a pleasant destination for those wishing to get away from the bustle of the city itself. Wuhou Memorial Temple was originally built by Li Xiong of the Western Jin dynasty

Zhuge Liang, who, as the defender and administrator of the Kingdom of Shu, proved himself to be more than just a military tactician, was very much liked by the people, and therefore he earned a place in their hearts. During his lifetime, Zhuge Liang's official title as defender/ administrator (i.e., Prime Minister/ Chancellor/ Regent) of the kingdom was that of "Wuxianghou". However, after his death, Zhuge Liang was given a different, or memorial, title (a common practice during China's dynastic past), namely, that of "Zongwuhou". But since Zhuge Liang was revered by the people, his memorial title was shortened by them to the more folksy "Wuhou", and when, during the Tang (CE 618-907) Dynasty, a temple was constructed to honor Zhuge Liang, it was named Wuhou Memorial Temple. The Wuhou Memorial Temple, which is located in the south of Chengdu, is a famous historical site dedicated to the memory of both Liu Bei (161-223), Emperor of the Kingdom of Shu in the Three Kingdoms period (220-280), and Zhuge Liang (181-234), Prime Minister of the kingdom. Zhuge Liang (181-234) was not only a great statesman and military strategist but also the hero of the novel Sanguo Yanyi (the Romance of the Three Kingdoms). The temple was originally built by Li Xiong of the Western Jin dynasty (265-316AD), 400 years after Zhuge Liang's death, and rebuilt in the Qing dynasty with a total area of 37000 square meters.

However, the people objected to this, choosing instead to simply refer to the temple of Liu Bei as "Wuhou Temple". This temple was later destroyed in war (one wonders if the local people might not have had a hand in this!) and in its place a new temple was constructed in 1672 during the Qing (CE 1644-1911) Dynasty, commemorating both Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang. This new temple is synomyous with the present-day Wuhou Memorial Temple.

West Lake scenic spots traditionally are the most classic and full of poetic imagery

Hangzhou with its tall buildings dominates the view to the east and tends to dwarf the lake buildings. However, the skyline of hills to the north and south as viewed when looking east is still intact and the Baochu Pagoda can be seen against the sky. It will be absolutely crucial that this skyline is maintained and that there is no encroachment of the city behind those hills that are visible from the lake. Welcome to China for Canton Trade fair. The popular Chinese saying that "In heaven there is Paradise, while on earth there are Suzhou and Hangzhou" is testimony to the Chinese people's admiration for these two marvellous cities. Hangzhouers, who are rightfully proud of the uniqueness of their city with such a large lake in its midst, might add that though there may be two cities on earth claiming the title of paradise, the real one is in Hangzhou! The following historical background seems to provide further evidence of this claim.

The Jade Dragon Snow Mountains are a small group of peaks close to the city of Lijiang

The Jade Dragon Snow Mountains are a small group of peaks close to the city of Lijiang. The nearest slope is only about 30 kilometers north of the Dayan Ancient City District, and the mountain can be clearly seen from the Black Dragon Pool next to the ancient district. The group of mountains is notable because they contain good hiking along Tiger Leaping Gorge, great scenic views, and a 15,000 foot mountain with a specially built stairway and path to make climbing to the summit easy. If you’d like to climb to the top of a high mountain, that might be one to try. There is no sliding on steep paths or climbing with your hands, the distance from the tram is short, and oxygen tanks can be rented for a little more than 4 dollars USD. But the view is excellent! The tallest peak called Shanzidou has only been climbed once by two Americans who say it is extremely dangerous. A Chinese poet once wrote: "Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, level with sky all year long. Cloud ain't in love with peak, so peak starts to weep. Cliff turns steady, as if it is chopped by wind. Unconsciously as I am, new-born lush herb has grown luxuriant." The poetry describes the beautiful landscape of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.

The Bayon Temple or Prasat Bayon is a well-known

The Bayon Temple or Prasat Bayon is a well-known and richly decorated Khmer temple at Angkor in Cambodia. Built in the late 12th century or early 13th century as the official state temple of the Mahayana Buddhist King Jayavarman VII, the Bayon stands at the centre of Jayavarman's capital, Angkor Thom. Following Jayavarman's death, it was modified and augmented by later Hindu and Theravada Buddhist kings in accordance with their own religious preferences. Indochinatourguide is pleased to offer great service in your Cambodia Tour.

The Bayon temple features a sea of over 200 massive stone faces looking in all direction. Each face has an enigmatic smile, an instantly recognizable image of Angkor, as familiar as Angkor Wat itself. In fact, many people assume that the faces are an integral part of Angkor Wat but it stands in fact at the center of Angkor Thom.
Built in the 12th century by King Jayavarman VII as part of a massive expansion of his capital Angkor Thom, the Bayon is deliberately built at the exact center of the royal city. The Bayon is the only state temple at Angkor built primarily as a Mahayana Buddhist shrine dedicated to the Buddha. Following Jayavarman’s death, it was modified and augmented by later Hindu and Theravada Buddhist kings in accordance with their own religious beliefs.
